Just back from a cold morning spent up in the Wicklow Mountains. Really cold up there today, as we got snow over the weekend on higher ground. One of the roads I like to ride winding off into the distance which takes you to Laragh. One of the many lakes that are to be found in the valleys. Looking south towards Glendalough Finally a Majestic bike in Majestic surroundings.

Beautiful pics Bill, makes me homesick for Ireland !! I do remember driving thru the mountains and the sheep in the middle of the road when we were there.
The Sportie looks good these days, I see you put some elbow grease in it.

Very nice indeed! Thanks for sharing with us. I'll echo XS's comments about the Sporty. It's looking good!

Although it's well into spring here, it's still pretty cold. We have had more snow and hail in the last week than we had all winter long! I enjoy the ride through the mountains and as it was a week day there was little or no traffic. The roads are in a pretty sorry state and care is needed to avoid the many pot holes that appear after winter. It seems to take the councils an age to fix them properly

Sweet pictures and the Sporty is looking good too.
I was just wondering in the picture with the signs, what is the language on the first line at the top of them? Three of the 4 look as if they might say the same as what is beneath them, but not so much with the Dublin sign.

Vs2up, the language on the sign is Irish Galic.

For once, Mrs Vstrom2up, come on whats your real name, XS is correct! Ireland Has it's own language and all road signs are in 'As Gaeilge'.
The Irish language is still spoken in many areas in the west of the country and is taught in schools at all levels. I have been here 30 years this May and can't really understand it. I know some words but as most of the time, 99%, English is spoken and all business is transacted in English.
The literal meaning of the Irish for Dublin is Dark or Black pool. Now some would argue thats because Guinness is black, but in fact it's a reference to the river Liffey.

Yep like most things here in Ireland wearing a helmet is mandatory, we don't get the choice of to wear or not to wear. They even have 'Learner riders' wear dayglo yellow vests with a big L on the back now so people in cars can see them?

Bill, I missed a ride through the Wicklow Mountains by my club in Ireland in May. The report I got was of a great ride with the "full Irish" to restore the energy. In another few days I miss a ride to Achill Island and it almost (only almost) makes me miss being in the native land. I went to Achill last October in glorious autumn weather and the scenery was about on a par with Wicklow. The roads are a great test of riding skills with relatively little traffic. When I figure out how to upload I will attach a few photos.

I only live 5 minutes ride from The Wicklow mountains so spend most of my time up there on the Sporty. It's a great place to ride when there is no traffic, it saddens me though to see the remains of burnt out cars that scum bags leave up there after joy riding in someone else's property. I don't mean to sound like it's a scrap yard but in an area of great natural beauty why do it?

I presume it is the Dublin overflow that produces the burnt out cars - a great shame no matter where the source. The scenic parts around large towns or citys in Ireland have suffered all too frequently from this malaise though my knowledge of it centres (For the US - centers) mainly in the northern part and particularly to Belfast and Derry/Stroke City. The Ohio state seems particularly clear of this type of scum bag though there is a sign of parallel black squirlys (tyre/tire marks on the road surface) associated with stolen cars in Ireland but I presume the result of overenthusiastic application of the throttle by wayward youth in the States. At least they are only damaging their own (or their parents) cars.
