It's hard to believe that it has been almost a year since I worked on my bike so I pulled it out and blew the dust off of it. First priority was to fabricate, machine, polish, and weld in the engine mounting plate. I centered the engine in the frame and bolted it down. The sprockets are misaligned by over an inch so I will need to run a jackshaft. I dug in the stainless scrap bin for some material and made up a set of jackshaft mounts. Before I finalize the jackshaft dimensions I need to mock-up the rear wheel with the sprocket and disc brake assembly. I machined and polished stainless axle spacers and installed the entire rear wheel assembly. It looks like I will have a few parts to reproduce in stainless for the rear brake assembly. I had hoped to have the bike finished last year but my schedule is crazy so I will try to complete it this year.

It's looking good X-90, the fabrication work is excellent. Which engine is that, the big old spark plug looks like something from past history.

I had a little time to work on the bike today so I bored the stainless sprockets, rough machined the stainless brackets, and started fitting the jackshaft assembly. I am going to run a little gear reduction on the jackshaft to get more torque to the rear wheel.

X-90, do you prefer a chain primary drive as opposed to a belt primary like the Rupp ?
What type of clutch are you using ?

X-90, do you prefer a chain primary drive as opposed to a belt primary like the Rupp ? What type of clutch are you using ? The Rupp belt drive is a set of CVT clutches. The gear ratio constantly changes with RPM, speed, and load conditions. www.csa.com/discoveryguides/auto/review5.phpMost minibikes use a centrifugal clutch and chain drive due to simplicity and cost. My engine for this bike has a centrifugal clutch built into it so I have no choice.

The wheels, tires, spacers and axles are finished. The wheels needed a little bit of machine work then I bead blasted them prior to clear coating. The pipe was modified to fit into the new frame. The rear pipe mount has to slide so that the chain can be adjusted. The engine still has to be cleaned up and painted. I still need to make a kickstand, rotation stops for the front fork, a chainguard, and a gas cap. I think that I only have another 50 hours to go. ;D

Nice job X-90 ! Did you turn the sprockets yourself ? I bought blanks this time because I could not get on the shaper in Canton to cut the teeth. The blanks are purchased by the tooth size and number. I just have to bore them, broach the keyways, and drill and tap the set screw holes. Then start polishing them.
