I have not had time to work on the bike. We have been to China, other bike shows, and I have been doing a lot of work on 2 antique boats. I just need to finish the engine in the Lyman but the Chris Craft is finished and in the water for this year.

This one has the old Hercules 6 cylinder. FYI - not my boat, I just maintain it. ;D

Hey x90, any progress on the Tom Thumb bike? It is sitting under my desk in the shop. I see it every day but unfortunately I will have to wait until December to start working on it again.

Dave , you have good timing. I tore the O&R engine down today to make a new crankshaft half with a larger diameter output shaft. So it looks like I may finally make some progress on the bike. My 4-wheeler of choice was at Americade last year. Check out the Shredder F-80. www.bourgets.com/home.htmFor another project I am doing research and thinking about building a bobber with an Evo style engine and a Baker 6-speed. The big issue is that I want a full air ride suspension that replaces the kick stand. That way the suspension is lowered so the frame bumpers sit on the ground when the bike is parked.

Plans have changed. The O&R engines are not going to cut it. After I make a new crankshaft the engine is still so underpowered that I need a jackshaft setup for more gear reduction. The top speed will only be about 10mph. A couple of nights ago I picked up a real Blata 2.5(not a Chinese copy) for $100. www.blatausa.com/blata_2-5.htmlThe owner stated that it was junk. He told me that the carb leaked and it would not run. I got it in the shop and checked it out. It had good compression and spark. I dropped the float bowl and it was filled with some nasty green slimy funk. I flushed the tank, fuel line, and carb. The jet was clean so I reassembled everything and added some premix. It popped on the first pull and was running after the second pull. I rode it around the parking lot and it ran great. For $100 and 20 minutes of my time, I now have a nice little 3.3HP engine for my Tom Thumb bike that should push the bike to 30mph. Now I need to get going and finish the bike for the Ann Arbor Show on May 1st. The engine fits in the frame ;D

Is it safe at 30 mph ? I know the Rupp with it's 10" wheels is really squirrelly at top speed. It took me some time getting used to the quick steering.

We will see. The speed is not that important. I just want enough power to take off without having to push off with my feet.
