Yeh, those were the Harley Hummers we had as kids. Three speed...two stroke, rated under 5hp. They would go 45 mph straight up or straight down. ;D

surprisingly , both the harley hummer and the bsa bantam were copies of the german DKW RT125 ... you'll notice the similarities , this is my 1949 bsa bantam , still on the production line ;D

Peter, this reminds me of a very old joke, the saying went, 'What is red, throbs and hangs between your legs'?

that's why it's still on the production line sir !! although i have recently respayed the forks and yolks ... and i'm almost decided on what size wheels to use , probably 3" x 19" on the front and 3.5" x 18" on the rear ... only things evolve in the fullness of time , and whilst patience is a virtue !! but being a perfectionist tends to slow things down ;D

I think that I prefer the antique bikes over the new ones.

X-90, I do too, I think that's why the retro look is so popular these days with the cruiser group. The old Harley Hummers when I was a kid were tons of fun to ride, basically they were reliable, easy to work on and the local Harley dealer kept a good parts supply. I think the fact that the Hummer had the Harley name coupled with the big wheels, tires and that beautiful gas tank made it so popular with the kids back in the 50s. I can remember how it went up the barn bank on the farm almost at idle, for a 2 stroke, it had a lot of torque.
