Hello to the board! This is Mrs. 87fxlr. I enjoy riding and like to ride with groups or just with my husband. I've always loved motorcycles but couldn't ride them before because my grandma would never let me. I met 87 in 1998 at a small get together and he took me riding and I've been hooked ever since. I started out with a Honda 500 Shadow and moved up to a Yamaha Virago (920). We got the Sportster last year and I've been lovin' it! Hope that we will be able to make the Ride Ohio get together whenever it happens.

Trish, How do you find the Sporty on weight distribution compared to the other bikes you have owned? How do you find the Sporty on reliability compared with the other bikes? I have to say that in Ireland I have not met too many women that own and ride big bikes, yep I see a lot of lady pillion riders, and my wife rides pillion with me a lot but I don't think I could ever convince her to have one of her own!

I find it a lot more stable then the smaller bikes. I can handle it better on the interstate. The smaller bikes would get blown around a lot going by a tractor-trailer. I did start out with a 500 Honda Shadow to get myself more comfortable on riding by myself. I took the Honda safety course on riding so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with my husband teaching me. I don't know if this will help you to talk to your wife about getting one, but it might. As I get more experience on this bike I found that a bigger bike is a lot easier to handle for me. I also have more room to stretch out instead of being bent so much while riding. The reliability has been great so far. I have only put 4K on it to this point and other than the oil changes it has never given me any trouble. (well unless you count the bolt ). Women riders are becoming more and more common here. We usually see several others when we are out on our weekend trips.

Thanks for the common sense reply that I can understand! Was the Sporty new when you bought it? With the low seat height I guess you can get both feet flat on the ground when sitting on it. How did you fare out on the previous bikes you had for seat height?

The seat height compared to the other bikes? Well I'm kinda tall for a girl. I stand at about 5'9". I can pretty well remain in a seated position when I'm stopped at a traffic light. My knees remain bent somewhat. The seat was taller with the Shadow and but is was not too terribley bad. The 920 Virago was a tall bike, a bit too tall, I was pretty much standing when stopped. The controls on the Shadow were cramped for a tall person and the Virago was more of an upright seating position. The Sporty has the forward controls which do allow for a more relaxed seating position. The sporty was new when we bought it. We got it out of Lima Harley Davidson. Unfortunatly I had to work the day we took delivery so 87 had to ride it home for me.
