I ride primarily to go historic bridge hunting in Ohio. I'm building a website to document those I've located with help from others: oldohiobridges.com Bridge hunting is a great excuse for riding (if you need one) Since most surviving old bridges are on (bad) township roads, which are often gravel, I guess the ideal bike for me would be a dual purpose but I make do with the small cruiser (Honda VLX) oldohiobridges.com/bike.jpg

Welcome to Ride Ohio bridger, glad to have you on board. Nice web site you have there ! Shoe and myself visited the Bridge at Teegarden on our Halloween ride last Fall, you can see the photos on "Ride Reports",.... look under "Shoe and XSs Halloween day ride". It's not a steel bridge, but none the less, an interesting old bridge. The Teegarden Bridge is just south of Salem on Rt 45, about 20 miles from my home. Teegarden is a great place to visit on a ride.
Again, welcome to Ride Ohio !

Bridger, after giving it some thought, I believe I do know where there is a steel bridge that fits the description presented on your web site. It is located at the intersection of Paris ave and Rt 183 south of Alliance. 50 Years ago as a kid, I used to ride my bicycle there to go swimming, we used to jump off of the top beam of the bridge into the water below. If memory serves me right, there is a twin to the bridge just 100 yards to the west which was used to service a railroad spur many years ago.

Glad to see you found the site bridger.
XS, Paris and 183 do not cross unless you are talking in Carroll County where Paris Ave (aka Blade) crosses the tracks and ends at 183 west of Minerva.

Yep, my Ohio map shows it as Paris...the bridge would be at Oneida.

XS There are a couple of interesting bridges I know of near Alliance. The rarest is on an abandoned section of Fish Creek Rd Then there is one on Walnut Ave in Town, which they are about to take down. If you were on it 50 years ago that would be old enough for the list! Can't find Paris though. I like to hear about these bridges especially if its abandoned.

bridger, locate Canton on your Ohio map and follow Rt 172 east to the little town of Paris Ohio. There is a road that runs due south out of Paris and terminates at Rt 183 in the little town of Oneida. The bridges are about 200 feet north of Rt 183 on the road from Paris to Oneida. The bridge still functions on the 1 1/2 lane road. The Railroad bridge I believe is still there, but I can't say for sure, I haven't been down that way since last Fall.
The bridge on Walnut in Alliance you refer to, I crossed over every day on my way to work for the past 34 years. I know it well.

Bridger, Are the bridges you are interested "rivited" trusses, and not the newer welded variety? The bridge you are speaking of on Fishcreek is less than one mile from where XS worked(s). It has been removed from the mahoning County map so i would beleive that it has been either abandonded or vacated. Click on these... FishcreekOneidaThere is also and old wooden decked truss by my grandparents old home in Pattersonville on an abandonded road and a neat concrete arch that I think is the highest span in Stark County on Paris Ave. One mile south of Paris over an abandonded rail line
