It might be legal in some states, but I won't do it. There is too much room for cage driver error. All you need is for someone to open a door or change lanes without looking and you are dead meat.
Dave...how do you spell "ever" ?? ;D

If people want to do it, go for it... But, I'd never do it... too hard to control the drivers in the cars!

I did some lane splitting when I stayed in Santa Rosa for a couple months in '05.It's a little scary at first but once you get the hang of it,it's the only way to go in California rush hour traffic.I would only do it when the cars were going less than approximately 15 mph and both lanes were full,if there was an opening in either lane I was VERY cautious. I found California drivers to be much more motorcycle friendly than Ohio drivers. When lane splitting quite a few cars would see you coming and move over to give you more room. Also,if you put your turn signal on they'd let you in-not like Columbus where they speed up to cut you off! >:(Another good thing about California is turn outs on hilly or mountainous roads-and the cars actually use them to let you go by.

Just back from a weeks holiday in the Canary Islands. Really nice place to go this time of year as it's HOT!! The police have a great way of keeping death of the highways! The drive round in Jeeps (Civil Guard) with guns pointed at motorists! They also breath test everyone on the roads after 10 PM.
