Many of us tend to forget that we in Ohio live within 1 days ride of one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world....Lake Erie. Rt 534 is only one of many routes which will take you directly to Geneva State Park and Lake Erie . This little good 2 lane paved road gets it's start east of Alliance on Rt 173 At Damascus and runs due north until it reachs the lake. Rt 534 goes thru some of Ohio's most beautiful farm land, and some of Ohio's Amish community as it continues north. All along 534 are rustic little towns and little known crossroads that offer interesting places to explore while riding a motorcycle. Geneva State park located on Rt 534 at lake Erie offers boating, boat docks, picnic areas, swimming, a marina with restaurant, and recreation areas. If you are interested in the larger yachts that travel Lake Erie, you can see them from a good vantage point at the marina in Geneve State Park. After you have explored Rt 534 and Geneva Park, you could choose one of the many roads that lead back south to N.E and central Ohio. Might I suggest you hook up with RT 528, Rt 44, or even Rt 45 going south for your return trip. This is one trip I make almost every summer. Lake Erie is very beautiful, you should check it out. www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/geneva.htm_________________

A few curves, but mostly straight and flat. Rt 534 will take you thru some of Ohio's Amish community. The Marina at Geneva state park is something you will enjoy, and from there it's just a short walk to the lake and public beaches.

I live near the lake so I don't forget. However, I rarely go to Geneva even though there are lots of bikes up their in the summer. Of course I have to take I-90 from Cleveland to Geneva. Not a very fun ride. XS I also used to frequent Nelsons Ledges Quarry in the 70's. They now have music there every weekend along with the camping and swimming. The campground looks exactly the same as it did in 1977. In fact, the current owner is someone who used to go there during the 70's and partied with all the rest of us. I spoke with him and he bought because he had such good memories of his time spent there he wanted to revitalize it. I've been a couple of times the last few years. Still very "laid back" and no one will bother you. Most old and "new" hippies go now. www.nlqp.com/

I'm very familiar with Nelson's Ledges, I took Bill from Ireland there in the summer of 1977 during one of the motorcycle rallies. The last time I was there a few years ago, it was much cleaner than I remember back in 1977.

We decided to try this route two weeks ago ,from damascus to rt.224 we were flanked by a nasty looking storm. So we did what any Lightning and thundercloud would do ,BEAT FEET home. Friday we are going to try again. What we got to see of it was great,so now we'll try again.

I'm taking tomorrow off to ride somewhere. Haven't been to Geneva yet this summer. Living less than a mile from the lake in the Firelands area, I guess I take the big pond to our north for granted.
Enjoy the day !
