If you are in or near the Alliance area you might consider this ride route. This would be a good route if you are willing to travel from the Cleveland, Akron/Canton area for an excellent country ride.
If you look at Alliance on the map, Rt 173 runs right thru Alliance and is actually called State Street in Alliance. Locate Beechwood Ave and Rt 173 on the west side of Alliance and follow Beechwood Ave south to the little town of Freeburg, continue going south past Freeburg to the next little town of Paris which is located on Rt 172. At Paris, continue going due south, you will cross Rt 30 and and 5 miles later, you will intersect with Rt 183 at a little town called Oneida. When you get to Rt 183, take Rt 183 west to the little towns of Malvern, Waynesburg and Magnolia. At Magnolia, take Rt 542 south to the Atwood Lake region and the little town of Dellroy. At Dellroy, take Rt 39 east to the town of Carrollton and hook up with Rt 9 going northeast toward Salem. Follow Rt 9 northeast to the little town of New Garden where you will hook up with Rt 172 going west. Follow Rt 172 west until you find Rt 183. Take Rt 183 north back to Alliance and Rt 173 where you started. Most of this route is off the beaten path and contains plenty of farm country, hills, twisties and swervies. Here are a few things you will see along this route:
The old mill in Magnolia:
The Atwood Lake region
The farm land along Rt 9
At Augusta on Rt 9
Lake on Rt 172 between New Garden and Rt 183
Civli War monument on Rt 172 between New Garden and Rt 183.
Allow most of the afternoon for this ride. All of the ride is on good secondary road and thru some of Ohio's most beautiful farmland.
Did I mention hills, twisties and swervies too ?
