This is a question and not a ride report. I was on this years ago but we were both sick as a dog. I don't remember it,I will be in my car. www.nps.gov/natr/index.htmI canceled my train trip...out of my price range so I thought this might be nice instead. Any of you been on it?

Amtrak, talk to Road Runner (or Ferret over on the other RO board).
Both have done the Natchez Trace Parkway. We may try to get there next summer while visiting some relatives in that area.

Bill - I was on it back in 1988. If you are a history buff about the antebellum era, you would enjoy it immensely. As far as a nice road it is NOT the Blue Ridge Parkway or challenging like Deal's Gap or the "hellbender" or as scenic with vista views as the Cherohala.
When I was on it in July of '88 - starting in Natchez, MS. it was hot and humid and I was very uncomfortable on the bike even to the point that I was very sleepy and felt myself drifting off the left track. I had to take a few breaks and ended up getting into Nashville totally beat.
My suggestion would be - inside a nice A/C car with several days to explore would be better that taking a motorcycle in July! An early M/C trip - in April or May might be a good choice. My opinion, it was nice but I would not do it again in one day in July!
Enjoy as much as you can within your own comfort zone.

Thanks Jim..the only time I can travel is january or february so if I do this trip it will be spur of the moment. The first time on it I think was '90 but we were both soo sick we held up in Mississippi for a few days and saw a quack doctor.I did not really get out of the van much to see the sights but I do like history.I can't pass a historical marker:-) I will be in a car and by myself this time,I have my one man tent and a winter sleeping bag. Looking at my NPS map from then there are a lot of places to stop at. But at the end I thought about going to Tampa FL on the 10th of february and Bush Gardens to see Steppenwolf for their first gig of the year.

Hey Bill - I just found a photo the wife shot back in 1988 - I mentioned earlier in the post on January 23rd that the weather was hot humid but we rode it... had my 1985 Gold Wing Aspencade model and my matching Shoreline trailer back then. The scanned copy is very fuzzy but so was the original... Hope you get to feeling better and soon...!
