For the Suzuki lovers on the forum, I'd like to share a couple of photos of my son's projects. The first one is a Suzuki GS1000 that he bought after we answered an add in the local newspaper. The bike was owned by non rider who took the bike as payment to settle a debt. The owner knew nothing about the bike, only that it would not run. The bike would only run while it was on the sidestand, and would promptly quit as soon as we tried to ride it. We bought the bike on the spot and rode it home. As it turned out, the bike was completely out of gas, even the reserve was empty. The bike was in excellent condition with 20K on the clock, it has a 4 into one Supertrapp, but all else is stock. The bike was purchased for $650.00. My son and the GS1000 The second bike is a GS850 which we bought for $100.00, the bike had been down on it's right side which damaged an aftermarket fairing and set of hard bags. It also damaged the right side muffler. The bike was low mileage and well worth some effort, so my son found another GS850 with a blown engine and put the two together to get the bike you see here. The cost of the blown engine GS850 was $300.00, so he had $400.00 and change in the GS850 when done. This is my grandson and the GS850: It's not hard to find a good project bike, all you have to do is keep your eyes open and your ear to the ground.

Now that I told you the story of the bikes, I'm trying to remember which year the GS1000 is, I think it's a 1980, maybe a GL ? Sorry, I'm a Yamaha man.

Hey, nobody's perfect. Both are 1979's and both are the first year of that model. VM carbs and solid brake rotors are the giveaway on the GS1000L. On the GS850G, kickstart, VM carbs, chrome front fender, and solid rotors were on the 1979 only. 1979 was the last year for point ignition on the GS's. Just to be picky, the 850 is sporting the incorrect grab handle off a 78, or 79 gs1000. Both look great!
