Question? see bottom of my post here for the question...I have had a number of helmets over the years - all with headsets and microphones - I communicate by CB radio as we ride with others who have CB radios on their motorcycles. It really helps when riding in groups (which I do 95% of the time) After my trip last week to Marietta last week - my helmet started bothering me. I think it needs to be replaced. Had it for 4 years now. In the past, I have had some I can't remember, a couple Vetter fiberglass ones back in 1980's, Honda "Stag," several Nolan, and HJC. I think I will be going back to Nolan modular helmets with headsets. Link - www.airrider.com/product_p/n104_solids.htm $ 330.00 Headsets - link www.airrider.com/product_p/03-01-33-and-03-04-18.htm$ 199.99 so, adding them up looks like $ 530.00 for me and another $ 530 for the wife = $1,060 plus shipping. Maybe I'll just keep wearing my HJC... (or maybe the wife would not want one) No wonder my money keeps on going down. Maybe I should give up this riding thing... (oh no not yet) OK - my question is "If you were in my position - would you buy 2 new Nolans or keep the old HJCs?"

I just went from Nolan to HJC, but I haven't worn the HJC long enough to form an opinion. Both the Nolan and HJC are modular. My new HJC is bluetooth ready.
The Nolan's visor broke prematurely at the hinge stop and couldn't be fixed, thus the switch to HJC. The helmet I like the best is my Shoei, but it's getting a little rank from years of use.
I would check out the Nolan's consumer rating on that particular helmet before spending that much money.

Small fixed income, eh ? So much for not having gas money. ;D ;D I have 2 HJC full face helmets (a C-16 and a AC-11) and a 3/4 helmet (that I rarely use anymore). Mrs. Wahoo has 1 HJC full face and 1 HD 3/4 helmet that I don't like her wearing. I installed headsets and mics for the Wing in the C-16's that we have, and I wear the AC-11 (with no headsets) while riding Strom or the Harley. IMHO the HJC's are good helmets for the money and seem to fit pretty well. They are not the quietest helmet, but I tend to ride with the visor up most of the time anyway, unless it's raiing or really cold out. The Suzuki dealer near me has the AC-11 "Live wire" models on close out for $49 (normally $249). Sizes L and XL only. I might buy another one since the price is so low.

For what it's worth, I bought my HJC Bluetooth ready at Iron Pony for $135.00 on close out.

That is a pretty good price on the HJC prewired.
The Goldwings (at least the 2010 and older versions) have a tethered cord, hard wire connection to the sound system / CB / intercom, etc. Not sure if the 2012 models and up went to bluetooth, but I doubt it.
I have considered getting something like a chatterbox 2 way for Strom, but honestly, I really enjoy the solitude of NOT talking to anyone.
If I want to listen to my iPod I just use my ear buds which seems to work pretty well so far.

I have had several Nolan helmets over the years - a friend of mine gave me one when he stopped riding. Then I had a white one back in 2000 and 2002. Silver one in 2008 which I still have - I require an XL helmet and really like the way it fits - If I were riding anything other than a Wing - I would be listening to the rhythm of the road and the smooth engine sounds. Maybe I'll just keep the HJC and add some thin foam padding in the top. No hair up there so I need something anymore... hate it when my head hurts from the helmet. Nolan HJC Symax

My son-in-law has a problem getting a helmet to fit him, the XL Nolan puts too much pressure on his forehead, he starts hurting after a couple of hours on the road.
I tell him it's because he's a fat head ;D
