Just got back from a ride on rt 565. very curvy, low traffic, well paved. One turn had a completely round newer brick home. I wish there had been a place to take pictures. Most of the state routes down here around Marietta seem to have been recently paved and make for some of the best riding in the state (I am from NE ohio and know the roads up there to a degree).

You are definitely in the heart of some of the best riding in Ohio. There are dozens of great roads in the Marietta area.We just had our annual FJR Ramble and we had two routes...one east of I77 and one west of I77.The total mileage on the two routes was over 650 miles and nearly all of it was incredible twisty roads. If you're new to the area, here's a few worth trying...260,255,26,800,537,lower section of 555,678,564,145,530,339,821,Washington CR 11(Dalzell Rd),Washington CR 42(Stanleysville Rd),Archer's Fork Rd.These are all within 30 miles of Marietta...and there are plenty more north east and west. The next time you're on 565 look for a sign for Lebanon Church Rd.At that point it is CR15 and the pavement is a little rough for about a mile...at the county line it becomes Washington CR11 (Dalzell Rd) and the whole Washington county section has new pavement all the way to 821.IMHO it is the best county road in the state. ;)But then again,Archer's Fork off of 26 is pretty freaking good too. If you're just starting to explore this area...you are in for a treat! And that's just the Ohio side of the river.

Thanks! Got a map book that shows most of the good roads. Have been on 26 and 555. Rode 564--that was rough and had a bad spot of gravel. Looks like they are getting ready to pave it ( I hope). Huck Road down here is new paved last year and has a bit of turns that keep me interested and alert. Same with 530 and it's 15 mile an hour turn signs. just started planning a ride on 255. Going to google a couple of those roads ypu mentioned.

Hey purplespringer...have you had a chance to try CR11(Dalzel Rd) yet?
How about 255,260 or 339?

rode 255, have to say, one of my favs so far. Have been on 555, like that road, but not on weekends when so many are testing their skills. Have not had a chance to try the county roads. Thanks for pointing them out. I have a detailed map book, yet I shy away from roads that may turn to gravel or just plain disappear (which has happened to me)

Been luvin' it A LOT the past few days! RT 564 just got new blacktop. I am looking forward to the warm weather coming in the next couple days. I enjoy hot weather riding and these roads are wonderful. EXCEPT--County rd 12, heavy gravel and Helman road, heavy gravel also.

Planning a group ride early October in Marietta ...
last time there with my group, there were no areas to pull off on 536 for photo op's If you're willing to travel three miles of fairly rough road(all paved or hard packed chipseal),one of the longest views in southeastern Ohio is off of 536 at Kiedesch(sic) Point Park.Once you get there, there is good parking and an incredible view of the Ohio river,Ormet and about three towns We included it in our spring FJR Ramble and didn't have any problems, the road is rough, but definitely do-able.The view is definitely worth it.

Just completed a great 2 days of riding around Marietta traveled all great roads that I could find which included 78, 260, 255, 26, Archers Fork (Co 14) 800, 537, lower section of 555 on down to US 50, 676, 564, 145, 530, 339, 821 (not overly impressed with 821.) Love all these roads! Sorry I missed last year but I was in the hospital.
Stopped in Stockport for lunch a a little place on Water Street that was built in 1844. Sign was missing from one side and at my age I can't remember what it was but prices were excellent.
