Any of you geniuses know what the numbers stamped on vintage spoke wrenches represent?
My spoke wrenches were probably made when the 1st spokes were made from steel and not wood, probably even older than XS. The wrench I use on the 950 has a number 8 on the end, However it isn't 8mm, it's 7 mm.
At 1st I though it was 8 gauge like in wiring but the smaller wrenches have smaller numbers and gauges work the opposite (5 gauge wire bigger than a 10 gauge). I thought the numbers were increments of 32 like 6/32 7/32 8/32 etc but it's closer to 8/30.
Web searches found zip and my luck, it's obvious but I can't seem to get a grasp

I don't know the answer to your question. Here is all you need to know about spoke wheels, but it doesn't answer your question either. sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html

I've used Sheldons site for years to find obscure info, however, it pretty much only covers bicycles. At least I found out my KTM has the biggest nipples of all the bikes
