Since my trip to the Smokys was postponed for now, I decided to take a 2 day trip to PA and check out the Allegheny National Forest.
Stopped in Mesopotamia on the way out of Ohio.
Stayed on Rt. 6 most of the way, but detoured via Rt. 59 to see Kinzua Dam and Bridge.
Stopped at Kinzua Dam.
A quick stop at Kinzua Bridge (or what's left of it after the 2003 tornado)
Heading to Coudersport for the evening.
Awoke to a lot of fog Tuesday a.m., so I got another 40 winks, had breakfast and hit the road before 9:30.
Rt 872 south to Wykoff Road to 879 to Clearfield. Wykoff Road was a blast to ride. Reminded me of Rt. 28 and Wayah Road in NC without all of the elevation changes. I had so much fun on it, I forgot to stop and take more photos.
This was 872
On 872, I found the Austin Dam remains.
From Clearfield, took 153 to 255 towards St. Marys. Found Parker Dam along the way.
Before St. Marys, took 948 thru the forest to Rt. 666. Stopped in Ridgway for lunch at Joey's Bakery and Deli.
Rt 666 is my other new favorite road. Over 30 miles of twisties and sweepers, with heavy tree canopy and a river running next to the road for miles.
Ended up in Tionesta. Heat had been in the high 80's and was peaking at 91 by late afternoon. Took 36 to 27, through Titusville, and on to Meadville.
From Meadville, I took 322 across to the Cleveland area, and ended up slabbing in the last 50-60 miles to get home before dark.
Monday was a 350 mile day and Tuesday was about 410 or so.
The heat really started getting to me and despite drinking lots of water along the way, I was partially dehydrated by the time I got home.
I can't wait to go back for an entire week next time. Hopefully I'll get up to the Finger Lakes then too.
