If you have seen the MadMaps OH/WVA edition, there are a couple SE Ohio rides originating from Marietta. A little Garmin legwork and you can begin anywhere you please: in my case New Philadelphia. I split the riding up into 2 days (camping) of about 4 hours saddle time per day. The route corresponds to trip #19 in the OH/WVA map, and goes like this: A pre-loaded GPS makes navigation a piece of cake, as some of the turn-offs are a bit obscure without it. I can't recommend this ride more highly. Twisty technical riding with plenty of altitude change. It's VERY West Virginia-like in character. The pavement is in very good shape with far less road-clag than found on 555. The Wayne Nat'l Forest has a couple free basic camp sites. I used the location at Haught Run not far from the Rinard Bridge on Rt 26. The place was deserted and I didn't see anyone in the 3 other sites all night. There's plenty of gas and eateries near the big towns, but as usual in rural OH, not much in-between. Campsite looks like this: This was an easy 2 day ride, and if you hustle can be done in one long day. No doubt about it, I'm going back to the MSTA Marietta ride in August. It's THAT good.

Another campground that's off the beaten track is the Mill Ring CG. I tried to get to it, but it's 3 miles down a gravel road off Rt 26, better suited to a dual sport bike than my loaded Versys.. Additionally there's a small water crossing which would become a mud-pit after a rain. Still it is secluded (and free). After 26 May the Leith Run campground opens. This one has reserve-able campsites thus is a better bet in the busy mid-summer season.
As an aside I rode 410 miles over about 30 hours, had a wonderful time and spent a grand total of $47 including food and gas. Some bang for the buck I'd say.
