If you are interested in American History or just interested in old country estates as I am, you will want to visit Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens Located on 714 N. Portage Path in Akron Ohio. This country estate was built in the years between 1912 and 1915 by F.A. Seiberling and his wife Gertrude. F.A. Seiberling was the founder of the Goodyear tire and rubber company and later went on to start the Seiberling rubber company in Akron. This gentleman had more money than the pope, and Stan Hywet Hall is a good example of how the upper class lived in the early 1900s. Stan Hywet [ Old English for "Stone Quarry" ] is a excellent destination for an afternoons bike ride, and is easy to find, Portage Path is just off of Market St. in Akron Ohio www.stanhywet.org

Stan Hywet is a great place to spend the day exploring the grounds and house and picnicking. Another interesting fact is this is situated on the edge of the Cuyahoga Valley which has some great roads and parks to ride through and walk in. Go down the hill from Stan Hywet and you can turn left On to Sand Run parkway through Sand Run park which was land donated by the Seiberlings for the park. Very scenic and great place to take a walk or picnic. When you get to Smith road make a right. At the bottom of the Smith Rd. hill you will dead end into the Riverview rd turn left and follow this Rd. it will parallel the Cuyahoga valley scenic railroad and river. There are many pull offs where you can park and walk down to the river and Cuyahoga valley tow path from the old canal days. This is now a bicycle path and walking path that extends the length of the valley. The valley is full of things to see so you may want to spend some other days exploring its many roads and sites. Such as the covered bridge. Or Hale Farm and Village. Peninsula is a great stop for lunch or a treat. Try the Winking Lizard for a good Sandwich You will find many Motorcyclists there on the weekend. Don't miss the valley on a hot day its always much cooler down there on those 90 degree days its a great cooling ride and a favorite of mine on those Dog Days.....Don
