We went to Mt. Washington yesterday during Bike Week. There are 3 choices to get to the Summit - ride your bike, take the tour van, or ride the Cog Railroad. The Cog looked like a good time so we headed to the station and found our train. WOW - We got the new train. ;D The boiler is on an angle now but going up the mountain it is horizontal. The engine actually pushes the passenger car. This is our destination. We needed a little more water to get to the top. There is a landmark halfway up. Maintainence train checking and repairing the tracks in front of our train. Made it to the top. Nice view from the Summit. Hotcakes proof that she made it to the top - windy day. Heading back down the mountain. Riding the Cog was a great time. I rode my bike to the top last year and have climbed to the top in the winter but riding the Cog is pretty cool too.

Great pics X-90 !! How long was the train ride to the top ? It's amazing that the little engine would make it to the top and back. Did it give you cause for concern ?

Thought I would respond to your question XS. I was concerned getting on the train, you see I am afraid of heights. Once we got started it really wasn't that bad, there were a few times when you could look straight down that had me a little worried. The trip up took hour and 15 Min's. The trip down took only 35 mins, we were pushing the engine this time. This guy was very important in our trip down, he controlled the brake. All in all, I would have kicked myself if I had chickened out in going up Mt Washington. If you ever get the opportunity, TAKE IT!!! Now I just wish that I could get up the courage to take the tram up the side of Cannon Mountain. Not sure about the whole hanging from a wire thing.

Bill,
It was 65 degrees at 11:00am at the train station - 2500' elevation. On the top at 12:15 it was 50 degrees and very windy. Upon arrival at the base at 2:00 it was up to 78 degrees.

Mt Washington is one of the most spectacular places I've ever been. Those are great photos and they really make me want to go back. I saw the train and thought it looked cool so I am really glad to see some pics of the ride! We took the bikes up and it was really not something for anyone with a height problem. You made the right choice there. Two cars could barely pass and one edge of the road was nothing more than a cliff. I would have REALLY been nervous in a car. Here's what the ride up looks like and it was one to remember! But now I want to try the train ride!
