Just curious how many of our members have rebuilt an engine or would attempt to rebuild an engine.
When I say "rebuild"....did it run when you were done ? ;D

I have rebuilt several small engines, car engines, and a couple motorcycles. Would not want to tackle the new stuff. Just redid a Briggs & Stratton 16.5 hp. overhead valve last week.

More times than I care to remember! 2 motors had to be taken all the way down to replacing cogs in the transmission. One motor had to have the cases replaced and other work from a near castrophic failure. One motor had to be torn apart 3 times in one day because a new part wasn't letting the transmission shift correctly (Don't ask). Luckily that one was a 2 stroke!
Car motors aren't too bad except they are always rusted together and you can't just toss the motor up onto the work bench, at least without blowing out a nut or 2. I tried to rebuild my own truck tranny but didn't have all the correct tools.
May be doing differentials in the spring.

I would have not problem rebuilding a engine I was given a Yamaha FZ1 in a basket to put back together and it even ran when I was done

May be doing differentials in the spring. No need for that now, it was easier just to buy a new truck
