Did not plan on doing this report, saw a few other reports that were not in OH and it is snowing right now 3/7 with 6 to 15 inches on the way and I am bored.Being a newbie on here I don't wanna do a bunch of posts and then fade away which happens a lot.....sooo don't think I am not in this for the long haul,I have read alot of other posts on here and like this group...seems like a happy friendly bunch so here we go with my second report in a couple of days. I am headed towards Blanchet KY,the ride suc*s on I75 till I get off at Williamstown KY and pick up rt 25 to get to our little camp site that we have,5 acres next to the NS mainline( we are train buffs, nuts, crazy but like to camp also) Of our group I am the only one who rides a bike. We were celebrating Jim's boy 25th birthday so we had a lot of youngns there that night so we started cooking early as we know the young ones have to eat,so we got the grill agoing We always have a feast when it's just us"boys" nite out. That was just the first round of grilling. We have lots of trains go by at about 50 miles an hour and they shake the ground....thats what we like.Trains, grillin,a few beers, every one shooting the sh*t around a campfire Nothing like a camp fire to ease your mind, trains run all nite, horns blowing, shaking the ground........heaven. I camp fairly close to the tracks in a one man tent. Here is a view or two from just outside my tent. This trip was not about the bike ride,it was the destination, good friends, camp fire, grilling out, trains and a nite out from the other half...........I could spend all day getting to this place riding the excellent back roads in KY but,I wanted to hang with the boys around the fire....bike ran good,my load was secure and no rain. Another set of nice pics amtrak. I wouldn't say I'm a train "buff" but have always been interested and still spot occasionally. As soon as I read your story it automatically took me back a few years ago....
19 years old with two others who rode out to California on our bikes. First time in California we stopped by the side of the road one night about 2:00 AM to sleep. Got woken up in the middle of the night with the ground shaking and a loud rumbling noise. I woke up scared sh**less thinking we were in an earthquake.
Unknown to us, it turns out we pitched our tents about 10 feet from train tracks....
looks like you got a great spot there!

Yuppers,Murray is not very close,I have been close when I drove a truck, would make a drop at Fort Cambel and head north to Evansvile IN or Mt Vernon IL Our camp site is north of Lexington just off of I75,in between Mason and Corinth.

You guys know how to have a good time...and you eat well while you are doing it. Great pics !! Last summer, a group from Ride Ohio took a ride down along the Ohio River and ended up in Dennison at the Railway Museum, if you get up this way, you have got to stop. Getting there is much of the fun. This is the Rail station museum: The Rail station again and part of our group:

Dennison is just southeast of New Phili on Rt 250...not far off of Rt 77. Don't know about an active rail system. I do know there were trains on the siding when we were there.

mmmmmmmmmm put the museum on my possible list of things to do..not a highlight but ya never know.Looking at the third pic and off to the right were those some old freight cars? One looks like an old steam engine at the very end. Not around that area much since I stopped diving a truck 19 years ago. Bill

Amtrak,
Nice photos and good times. I used to live in Illinois and we would ride our 3-wheelers for miles down the tracks and then camp between the tracks and a small pond. Nothing like the sound and rumble of a train at 2am.

Trains and motorcycles...my two big hobbies....I do like to shoot a few pics along the way also:-) two years ago ,following the Colorado river:-) Didn't mean to wonder of the motorcycle theme yet alone OH...the snow out side...cabin fever:-)

Wow!!! Some amazing stuff there OLDBEEMER......an 8' steam train carved in ivory.....most of us would be lucky to carve the peel from an apple in one piece......just goes to show ya OHIO has a lot to offer. Whittling, I think of Jed(Beverly Hillbillies) setting on the front porch of his mansion with Duke( his hound dog) working on a piece of wood.We used to whittle away at a hunk of wood just because. Everyone carried a pocket knife....now days you will charged with carrying a conceled weapon. Thanks for a little glance back in time:-)
