The locks of the Ohio river are spread out along Ohio Rt 7 and can be seen between Marietta and East Liverpoole, These locks are open to the public and offer observation decks at no charge where the visitor can watch the boats being raised and lowered to aid in traversing the river. The photo oppertunities are limitless. I go there quite often on one of my bikes just to enjoy watching the river. XS

Going to see the dams along the OH do make great destinations, the observation deck at Meldahl,at least the last few times over the past few years has been closed when I was there but the one at Markland IN has been open... Always cool to see a barge go thru.......amazing. I have a scanner so it is always interesting to listen in.

Some of the locks have been closed by homeland security. We couldn't get close to one last summer on the Marietta River ride.

Good stuff XS, The ride to that area is great also, so many ways to go, everything from twisty asphalt to cow paths on some of those jefferson co. roads. Big Fun!!!

Dam locations seem to get over looked, covered bridges while cool and nice destinations with fantastic roads.....something about the Ohio River,a barge,a dam, runabouts has its own apeal. Just another dam picture.
