One member on another forum to which I belong is talking about taking the Lincoln Highway [ which is Old Rt 30 ] from Pittsburgh to Des Moines this summer. The Lincoln highway is designated as an Historic Byway and runs right through the heart of Ohio. The Lincoln Highway attracts riders much like old Rt 66 which runs from the heartland to the west coast. Many of us live close enough to the old road to ride parts of it if we choose to do so. As a matter of fact, one of the very first Ride Ohio group rides took us along the Lincoln Highway on our way to the Ohio River. Most certainly, those of us who have had lunch in Lisbon Ohio at the Steel Trolley have ridden on some of the old Lincoln Highway. I did a little research on the old highway, you can check it out here: lincolnhighway.jameslin.name/by_state/I was out for a ride yesterday and took this photo in Minerva Ohio...not more than 15 miles from my home

I just this past week watched a PBS documentary on the Lincoln Highway. www.wqed.org/tv/sebak/lincoln_hwy/ It was promoted by some men to get people to buy cars and all the associated things that would get them out travelling. It was more of an idea than an actual road - although it does theoretically go coast to coast. Here is a little history about the beginnings of the highway: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_HighwayHere are some clips from the show: www.wqed.org/tv/sebak/lincoln_hwy/video.phpMy goal is to travel the 3073 miles Route 50 from Ocean City, MD to Sacramento, CA. I have already done the Ohio to Maryland section.

I have traveled 30 to Bucyrus on my way to the flat track nationals in Lima several times and always wanted to ride it to Indiana. Just outside of Bucyrus,in Harpster is Killdeer Plains a nature reserve. It is absolutely beautiful. Thats where I actually got to see my first nesting Bald Eagles. It is one of Ohio's Last true plains areas.
