How did I end up being the proud owner of a mo-ped? Well, back in the Spring of 1979, my daughter was begging for a mo-ped to ride back and forth to summer band practice. There was a big craze at the time for the little mo-peds, all the kids were riding them. She had a habit of biting her fingernails, and I had been trying to get her to stop the habit, so I told her if she stopped biting the nails, I would buy her a new mo-ped. I figured it was a safe bet, I never actually thought she would win the bet, so I figured my money was safe. But and however, she did quit and I had to put my money where my mouth was. So, we were off to the Honda shop to look at mo-peds, they had about two dozen of the little PA-50s sitting in a circle in the parking lot. She went right to the middle of the circle and picked out the one she wanted. It set me back $549.00. ;D She rode it 800 miles that one summer and then got her car drivers license. The little mo-ped has been sitting in our basement every since then. It's patiently waiting for another half pint rider to come along and ride it to band practice. The little PA-50:

With the price of gas, you may want to get it out this summer.

That little thing looks new. You got a time capsule or something? I had one. put a smaller sprocket on it and it ran 45mph. we used to drag race em.

No time capsule, it's been in a humidity controlled basement. It's not very fast, but it is a ton of fun to ride.

When I was about 10 or 11, my dad bought a moped for my mother sa a surprise. She rode it all of one time. "Surprise" I was still too young to ride on the street, but I only had to cross one to get to a parking lot. Private property! Woo hoo! I put hundreds of miles on that dern thing riding around in circles. I must have had a great imagination back then 'cause I really believed I was gonna be the next Freddy Spencer. In retrospect, I guess it worked out. He's old, I'm old. He still rides, I still ride.
