If you took some other approved rider's course, please tell us which course you took.
The school of multiple crashes doesn't count.

I know this isn't relevant to the US but I did the Institute of Advanced Motorists motorcycle course which serves United Kingdom and Ireland. I reckon it is similar to the ideals of MSF - safer motorcycling through training. The focus is on attitude, observation and application with a twist or two of knowledge and machine control. It starts with an assessment of your riding followed by reading the book, adopting it's system through training with an Observer and then passing a test by an examiner who is a highly qualified police or ex-police motorcyclist. Upon passing the test you become a full member of the Institute and encouraged to go through further testing to become an Observer and put your experience back into the Institute by training new members. There is an Observer re-test after 3 years to ensure a high standard is maintained. You can go on with further training to become a Senior Observer who is responsible for the assessments of new members and re-testing Observers. Apart from the upper echelons of the Institute the members perform their functions as volunteers. I found the whole thing very satisfying and firmly believe you learn something new everytime you ride a motorcycle. This has been reaffirmed when riding in the US with you guys and others - there are so many differences and so much to learn. Brilliant!!

I took the " Try not to hit the cow as you rode thru the farm on my Bridgestone 90 " course. Pretty handy especially for city riding.

When I began riding back in the '60's, it didn't exist. However, when I returned to riding a couple years ago after a 30-year absence, it seemed like a good idea. I'm not as quick or as indestructible as I was then.

I took my first MSF course in 1985 and have every 2 to 3 years thereafter! It is a great reminder for things you may have forgotten or on things where you have gotten a little rusty! I belong to the GWRRA - Gold Wing Road Riders Association and we have a Rider Educator at the Ohio District level as well as different Chapters throughout Ohio. Chuck Geggie is the District Rider Educator. He is a trainer/instructor who is also retired and he rides with my "Retired and Riding Group" every Tuesday! He teaches classes since he retired and has time to do it! He retired as a teacher! FYI - In case someone in Ohio would be interested - here is the link to the 2010 classes schedule: www.ohiogwrra.org/RiderEdFolder/OHGWRRACourses.htm
