I did that ride in 1991 on a Suzuki GSX1100F - air cooled engine and it was hot. Helmet yes (Legal requirement)- leathers no. The scenery was probably the best I have ever seen - it made safe riding difficult - there was so much to see. There were Gendarmes in France and Carabinieri in Italy aplenty but there were plenty of headlight flashes to warn you of their presence. That part of the world really welcomes bike riders. Lunch in Italy (even though the restaurant was closed - they opened up for us - business is business) was on the terrace overlooking the Cote de Azur - the bluest blue I have ever seen. The horror of a bill in lira in the thousands vanished when the Visa came in a month later at about $10 - half what I would have expected in Ireland. The meal was brilliant bearing in mind it was rustled up outside of opening hours (siesta didn't rule that day). The only heavy traffic was in the Monte Carlo area but didn't stop a rake around the Formula 1 Monaco course. The tyre marks were still there though the armco had gone. I was well prepared for the twisty bits coming from Ireland but the heat was a challenge - very strange indeed. By the way - enjoy your ride. I'm sorry I'll miss it as I'm back in Ireland. I'm just drying out after a bike run this morning though it is now drying up. The Ulster Grand Prix Road race is on today so plenty to entertain me this afternoon.
