I'm just curious if anyone bought any new riding gear for the 2009 riding season, and if so, what did you buy. Or if you are planning on buying new gear, what do you have in mind.
I bought a set of Frogg Toggs at the end of last season for use this year and I would like to get a set of Draggin Jeans and a pair of summer riders gloves.
I suspect the recession we are experiencing will put off buying some of the things we have promised ourselves this year.

Nope, most of what I have is good to go for another year. I have boots which I bought a year ago, gloves that will be 6 years old this year and Jacket that will be 5 next Christmas and Levi's don't really age at all!

Nope no new gear for me this year. I do need to find trish a new pair of riding gloves.
My jacket and boots are 3 years old and are good for a few more years. I'll probably resole the boots if needed. Gloves are older than I can remember but are still functional.
Trish really needs some new riding gloves and I'll probably hit up a swap meet or the Iron Pony for some new ones for her.
Everything else will have to hold out for another season. The recession really inhales.

I bought a new modular helmet. I've always wanted to wear a full-face helmet for the safety factor, but I am nutty about selected closed space situations and the helmet was one of them. My goal is to GET OVER IT this year! I also bought some light weight summer riding gloves at the motorcycle show.

Bought a Nolan helmet and headset/speakers. Will get new boots and cover before I go out west this summer.

You are going to like the modular helmet, I love being able to flip the front up when it's hot and I'm stopped at a light or when in slow traffic.

Hubby and Ted have one and they wouldn't consider it any other way. I am at least hoping that it will give me an "escape hatch" for the claustrophobic breaking in period.

I'm looking to get a new modular helmet this summer. The Zox (spelling?) brand really impressed me when I saw them at Iron Pony last year. I could also use a new mesh jacket for summer. The one I have hurts my neck while riding as it tends to strangle me. Not pleasant!

I just spent my new gear allowance for the year. A pair of $17.00 driving lights at WalMart. Will need a new front tire soon but that doesn't count as gear.
I was going to go to the swap meet at the IX center but I'll have to keep away this year. Even if I go with full intentions to look only I know I don't have the strength to walk out of there with nothing.

I have been looking at the modular flip up helmets as well. I like the looks of the nolans but they are pretty pricey. I also would like to find a pair of waterproof gloves that are not to thick. I have been trying to talk my wife into a nice pair of Riding boots. She is part of the looks over function crowd. There is nothing I have liked better than the last boots I bought, Rain no problem, Cold no problem, Hot no problem, Comfortable to walk in Relatively light weight with good protection. They are Joe Rocket brand. They have a dry tech liner and believe it or not vent quite well through some kind of foam rubber looking areas on the boot but yet they don t leak. I am not sure how that works, but only that it does. This is what I am looking at for her, but I will need style to convince her. While I am a helmet advocate I never liked the full coverage until I wore one in a cold 40 Deg. rain. I also love my electric vest for the same reasons. I am hoping the flip up helmet will work out on hotter days as presently I find the full coverage to hot.

I have been looking at the modular flip up helmets as well. I like the looks of the nolans but they are pretty pricey. Nolan was my first choice too. I have the open face with the face shield and a flip-down sunshield that works fantastically on partly sunny days or a sudden turn into a setting sun. Just move that thing down enough to shield the sun and I was set. I was going to get the same thing in the modular, but they "improved" it and put the sun shield inside the helmet beneath the face shield. It is operated by a mechanism on the helmet. It is easy enough to use, but the bummer for me was that I no longer could adjust how far down the shield goes like my other helmet...all or nothing now. This "improvement" made it virtually the same helmet as HJC has for a $100 less! The only real difference I found in these 2 helmets is the Nolan has a fastening mechanism on the neck strap and the HJC is the standard D ring fastener. A friend has this helmet without the sun shield. He has worn it many, many, many miles and has no complaints.

Thanks vstrom It sounds like the hjc may be worth looking at I have an hjc half helmet and it is very nice and comfortable. They manufacture on the Harley line for the stores as well. I really do like the extra sun visor although it would be nice to be adjustable. Everyone keeps talking about the Iron pony and I have yet to get there. Perhaps I will get down there soon and try a few helmets out. I have received there mag before and looks that they have good prices. I can relate with the claustraphobic feel of a closed face. First time I tried one on it was a little small for me. The guy in the shop says they always feel tight till you get it on. I got my head in and it didn.t want to come off. Breathing was a little suffocating and I was having trouble getting the shield open which added to the fun. Nearly tore my ears off getting it back off. It was years till I was willing to try another one. The early ones were not as vented and comfortable as they are now.
