Rt 536 from Rt 7 going north was just paved last summer, so it should be good and smooth. That section of Rt 536 has some of the best riding in S. E. Ohio, it's about 8 miles of twisties and hills.

Overall, 555 is in about as good condition as it gets. The Morgan County section from the Muskingum County line to just north of Deavertown has some patches that are a little rough, but that's about it for rough pavement.Portersville to 2 miles below SR78 was paved last year and nearly the whole length south of Chesterhill was paved this spring.
But it is 555...always be on alert for gravel in corners and on the crests of hills.I rode it from Zanesville to Ringgold yesterday and a truck had dropped some gravel in some corners.
There is a ton of great roads around the two you mentioned. If you have the time you might want to try SR556 which is just north of SR536.The section of SR26 between Beallsville and Woodsfield makes a great connector between them.
SR555 crosses SR78 in Ringgold.78 is good in both directions, but west towards Glouster and Burr Oak SP is a treat. The real good stuff is over by the time you get to Bishopsville so you can turn around and run it back to 555 and continue on.About 8 miles each way,but well worth it.
Right after you turn off of 555 you'll go up a hill on 78...when you get to the top of the hill look right.IMHO it is one of the best views in Ohio.

Denny - The paving and the gravel is the kind of info I need. Thanks! I was up there in mid-June and it rained and the group did not want to do it in the rain. Different group this time - so I hope the weather holds out so we can do this on Tuesday. Some riders are from SE Indiana and one from N Kentucky, so we will have about 270 miles in before we get to Marietta. Thanks all!
