vote today Personally I feel much safer if I am about 5+ over cage traffic so no one sneaks up on me.

When I'm riding alone, I like to stay ahead of cage traffic. If I'm leading a group, I like to ride about 5 mph over the posted limit and no more. Knock on wood, I haven't had a traffic ticket since 1968.

I tend to do around 5 over the posted speed if there are no other vehicles nearby. If I am on the highway I tend to do what the cages are doing or slightly faster. I don't want to be the one going 55 when everyone else is going 75. I will generally speed up to make sure I am not in someones blind spot.

I absolutely never go over the posted speed limit. Usually about 20 mph under.
I also have some great deals on oceanfront property in Nebraska.

Usually at 5 over on the interstates and the highways around here. In town it's right at the posted limit. Out in the backroads just tooling around, it's just a good relaxing pace I don't even pay attention to the speedo. I'm too busy watching the sights and enjoying the smells to worry about such things....

I lead group rides every week and I do consider some riders (retired) do not have the reflexes as others do and I ride so we do not have problems with any of the riders in the group. A steady pace makes a safe ride. ;D

I do not have any set rules ,it depends on conditions at the time. just to prove you don't need lots of power and speed my last speeding ticket was two years ago in Dalton, I was on a 250cc scooter 45 in a 35 zone.

5 to 10 over on the highway, slower on the back roads. Interstates I wind it up till Lightning strikes. She hits hard sometimes!

As I am out and about on Irish roads either for pleasure or as part of my job, it never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are when it comes to road speeds.
The speed limits are there for a purpose, if it's an urban area it's to keep speeds down to the minimum just in case a child wanders out into the road, yeah I know how often does this happen? It happens all the time in urban area's thats why we have a 50 KPH limit and lower in places like outside schools. How many times have I seen idiots overtake in these restricted area's just because the guy in front is obeying the law?
We have speed camera's both fixed and mobile just waiting to catch you speeding. The amount of carnage that takes place on Irish roads just shows how many idiots are still out there, that through their own anti-social actions cause misery to at least 5 Irish families every week with needless road fatalities. Stick to the limit, no excuses!

I am the one who posted warp factor 12 for one reason... A cop asked me to back things down to warp factor 1 a few years back so the poll was fitting!! He was nice enough to let me go with a warning.
Bill is correct. Speed limits here in Ohio are based on Average daily traffic counts, number of driveways & intersections along with safe sight stopping distances, intersection sight distances and the degree of curvature of the curves.
Interstate speeds here in Ohio are generally designed for 70mph so 65mph is well inside the safety margins unless the road surface is compromised with snow, ice or rain.
I try to stay within a reasonable speed of the posted speed limit. That is why I try to take as many tight twisty back roads without a posted speed limit as possible. On some it is nearly impossible to exceed 55mph therefore you can go fast as you feel safe and not get a ticket. You do have to take in account of you own limited sight distances and animals along with a stray car here and there.
I never speed on the 1100, it is too ill handling and the wind buffeting sucks.
The Transalp gets real buzzy above 70mph
The 950 Adventure is another story. It creeps up towards the warp factor zone way too easy. It needs a cruise control to keep me out of jail.
