Well I'm back from my ride out west and as promised here are some pictures. This is the landscape just south of Silverton CO. The view of Silverton from the south. A shoot of the valley before the first mountain climb. Approaching the first swithback. A nice scenic climb. Million dollar esses. Looking back at the valley. Colorfull mountain peaks. A memorial to those who keep the pass clean and have payed the ultimate price. Really fun swithbacks. More twisties. ...and beautiful twisties... ...around the corner. Don't skrew up or you may be here awhile. I'd like to know the story behind these two. The next three are the Bear creek area-really rocky here. Heading towards Ouray. The town of Ouray. What a ride!!!

Awsome! Thanks for the pics, but now I am afraid you made me not so ok with this stay-at-home-and-work-on-the-house-rather-than-vacation thing we are doing this year!
Looks like a super ride!

Great photos, I have never been to Ouray in the summer. I have flown in to Telluride several times in the winter and driven a rental car to Ouray. I like to attend this event. www.ourayicefestival.com/index.php

Great photos - nice memories for me. My nephew lives in Grand Junction and that MDH is just south of there. We rode there the first time in 1988 and stopped in Durango then rode the D & S narrow gauge up to Silverton. Been back several times, including last year, and that is one of my favorite rides! Thanks for the memories!

Thanks everyone. The M.D.H. is one of those rides I've been reading/hearing about for years and thankfully I finally got a chance to ride it-the wait was well worth it!
There is even better news if anyone is planning to go out that way in the fall. While I was there they were paving and most of the section between Silverton and Ouray should have new pavement by August 15.That's about enough to get me back out there.
XS,I went for a four week 7,200 mile ride.
The highlights were; The Telluride Bluegrass Festival,Mesa Verde NP,San Jaun Skyway,160 to 149 in CO,50 to 92 in CO(where I got caught in a cattle drive-ever have about 700 head of cattle herded past you?),Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain NP,Grand Teton,Yellowstone,Bearthooth Pass and Going To The Sun in Glacier NP.
What a ride.
