Anyone know anything about a Simplex? It as I remember was a small (low HP) vertical single cylinder bike. If it is the one I am thinking about it may have been a mail order unit from some catalog or another back in the early 50's. Am I talking too much ancient history here?

I have a 1956 "Cycle "magazine in front of me that has the original advertisement for the Simplex line, and yes it was a two stroke vertical single engine...available in 150cc or 125cc. The add says " All models delivered for less than $300.00" They offered a scooter and a motorcycle. We called them "Service Cycles" when we were kids.
We ran the snot out of them ;D

Thanks - OK - next question - Did they have a throttle connected to the floorboards or was it on the handlebar?

The 1956 looks like it has a twist grip. The one I rode belonged to a buddy, but as I remember it had a twist grip too. It had a belt drive, springer front end and a two sided gas tank with two filler caps. Check this out: www.servi-cycle.com/

Sounds exactly what I remember about my older brothers scoot. I don't remember the throttle being on the handlebar. Maybe he modified it to the floorboards.
Thanks - I appreciate it.
