xs,your'e close it was the 61-63 turbocharged F85s that had water injection. Also used alcohol mixed in maybe more as an antifreeze than any other reason.4 barrel ,4speed ,2door came out in 64 with a 330ci engine, in 65 they went to 400ci, now that one would run.My K1100lt calls for 93 octane, but I have used 87 with no ill results .You have to be careful with alcohol it can cause problems with older rubber seals I left a trail of gasoline from Front Royal,VA. to home two years ago after having an O ring on my tank start leaking after filling up with gas- alcohol mix.

I use whatever my manual tells me I should use. Just like Jeffe explained. Some engines are made to burn one thing while another needs something else. I figure that they didn't give me a gas octane rating in the manual to take up space.
Actually, everything we own can take the cheap stuff except the Harley is the prima-donna that needs 91+. The Strom even ran on ethanol while out west. Boy, what a waste! It ran fine, but that stuff burns up so fast it isn't funny. I don't see how it is so "green" if it takes more of it to do the same job.
